Chances are, if you have arrived at this blog, you're interested in ways to help Pacific Islanders or you've come to the conclusion that the best way to help them is through EDUCATION. We wholeheartedly agree!!! We hope this blog will help you better understand this project to open a High School for Pacific Islander youth in the fall of 2011. Iosepa Academy is named for the first Polynesian settlement in Utah, near T0oele, which existed from 1889 until 1917. Pioneers of vision, devotion and hard work, these forbearers set a valuable example for our students to follow. Iosepa Academy will be a public school for 500 youth grades 9-12 and will offer a variety of instructional programs aimed at meeting state standards for education, developing a deeper understanding of self and culture, and preparing students for real-world opportunities of higher education, entrepreneurship and careers of the 21st century and a global market, and building successful communities and families. Students will be involved in rigorous academic work, place-based and project-learning, service learning, a high-technology program, scientific research, and work and travel-study programs. We encourage you to get involved--there is something everyone can do!
